Artist Residency at The Space

Designated time & space for creative exploration

The artist residency at The Space is an opportunity for artists to fully immerse themselves in their practice, explore new directions, and engage with the community. Artists have access to a dedicated workspace where creativity flows freely—through quiet, uninterrupted art-making as well as open studio hours that invite conversations and connections with visitors.

Residency artists also receive guidance and support to help navigate creative blocks, offer fresh perspectives, and encouragement. With access to materials for documenting and finishing pieces, plus the opportunity for a closing exhibition, this residency is designed to foster growth, and discovery.

Depending on the arrangement, artists will provide occasional support in The Space gallery/shop and Haliburton Framing and Photo, gaining behind-the-scenes insight into business operations.

Tailored Support for Your Creative Journey

The residency is designed to be flexible, adapting to each artist’s unique working style and needs. Whether you thrive in a self-directed environment or prefer more hands-on support, guidance from Scott Walling is available to help navigate creative blocks, refine ideas, or provide fresh perspectives. Artists can also shape their schedule—balancing open studio hours for public engagement with private time for deep focus. Beyond the residency, there’s even the possibility of renting The Space for an exhibition or special project, allowing for further artistic exploration and community connection. Whatever your vision, we’re open to discussing how the residency can best support your creative process.

Choose Your Residency Pathway & Duration

The Artist Residency at The Space offers flexible rental options to suit your creative needs. The cost is $500 per week, or $2,000 per month, with the choice of renting the space for a one-week, two-week, or full-month duration. You can also share the space with other artists, collaborate, and have a collaborative group exhibition. There is a 15% commission for artwork sold in the gallery.

Grant-Supported Artists
Artists looking for financial support can apply for grants through the Ontario Arts Council (https://www.arts.on.ca/grants). This funding can help cover the residency experience, allowing for deep artistic exploration without financial barriers.

Self-Funded Artists
For artists pursuing a self-directed residency, the space is available for flexible durations, from one week to a full month. This option provides a structured environment while allowing for a variety of creative pursuits, such as focused solo work, community engagement, or experimental projects.
